The World Cup has barely finished, but Premier League football is already back. Preseason 2026 is underway across three continents — clubs are playing friendlies in Nashville, Sydney, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Stockholm, and just about everywhere in between. With the 2026-27 season kicking off on August 21, these next four weeks are when squads take shape, new signings get their first minutes, and managers test the systems they've been drawing on whiteboards all summer.
This guide covers every confirmed preseason fixture for all 20 Premier League clubs, with kickoff times, venues, and the storylines worth watching. We'll update it as new fixtures are announced. 🔥 Tonight's Matches — July 25, 2026
Liverpool vs Sunderland — Nashville, 11pm BST. This is the big one. Andoni Iraola's first match in charge of Liverpool since arriving from Bournemouth, and the first glimpse of how this Liverpool side will look post-Klopp. Two new signings — Jeremy Jacquet (£60m from Rennes) and Victor Munoz (£34.5m from Osasuna) — could make their unofficial debuts. Sunderland, under Regis Le Bris, are preparing for another Championship promotion push and will treat this like a cup tie.
A Tyne-Wear derby of sorts. Newcastle's traditional preseason opener against their National League neighbours. Expect a rotated squad — Eddie Howe will use this to give fringe players and academy prospects minutes. Newcastle have a busy summer ahead with matches in Bristol, Valencia, Edinburgh, and a St James' Park double-header against Leverkusen and Strasbourg.
This Week's Key Fixtures (Jul 26 – Aug 1)
The Tonali era begins. Spurs' £100m record signing — the biggest deal of the summer — is expected to feature as Tottenham open their Asia-Pacific tour in New Zealand. Mateus Fernandes (£85m from West Ham) and Jan Paul van Hecke (£52m from Brighton) should also get minutes. Ange Postecoglou has rebuilt this squad aggressively and the Auckland friendly is the first test.
Chelsea's Asia-Pacific tour kicks off in Sydney. Enzo Maresca's side has seen serious turnover — Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid (£51.8m), Andrey Santos to Man Utd (£50m), Alejandro Garnacho to Villa on loan — but the incomings are just as eye-catching. Morgan Rogers (£117m from Villa, the Premier League's biggest ever sale), Marco Palestra (£43m from Atalanta), and Geovany Quenda (£43.5m from Sporting) make this arguably the most fascinating squad rebuild in the league. Western Sydney Wanderers will provide a spirited test.
The marquee friendly of the summer. Spurs vs Chelsea — in Sydney. Tonali vs Rogers. £100m midfielder against £117m forward. Two of the three biggest spenders of the window facing off 12,000 miles from London. For context, this is the first time two Premier League clubs have played a preseason friendly against each other in Australia since 2017. The ANZ Stadium will be packed.
Club-by-Club Preseason Guide
Arsenal
Arsenal have been relatively quiet in the window — Christos Tzolis (£34m from Club Brugge) is the headline arrival, a left-footed right winger who scored 18 goals in Belgium last season. Leandro Trossard has departed for Besiktas (£15.3m). Arteta's system is settled; preseason is about integrating Tzolis and deciding who starts at left-back with Kiwior gone. The Community Shield against City on August 16 is the real dress rehearsal.
Aston Villa
Unai Emery has been busy. Johan Manzambi (£59.5m from Freiburg, club record), Joao Gomes (£38m from Wolves), and Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea. But they lost Morgan Rogers for £117m — the biggest outgoing transfer in Premier League history — and Youri Tielemans to United. Tonight's friendly against Porto is the first look at how Emery reshapes the attack without Rogers. The Villa Park crowd won't see them until August 15 against Monchengladbach.
Manchester United
Ruben Amorim's first full preseason. After the 0-1 loss to Wrexham in Helsinki (a genuine shock result — Wrexham's Hollywood owners were in the stands), United travel to Scandinavia for the remainder of their summer. Andrey Santos (£50m from Chelsea), Youri Tielemans (£35m from Villa), and Karl Darlow (free from Leeds) are the new faces. The August 1 friendly against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm is the one to circle — it'll be the first time Amorim fields something close to his strongest eleven.
Manchester City
Quietest summer of the big six. No major signings yet. Their first friendly isn't until August 1 against Inter in Hong Kong — Pep clearly prioritising recovery after the World Cup exodus. The Community Shield against Arsenal on August 16 is the season's first competitive fixture. Expect City to treat it seriously.

The Asia-Pacific preseason market has exploded post-World Cup. Five of the big six are touring the region — only Arsenal are staying in Europe. This is about more than football: the Premier League's broadcast rights in Asia-Pacific were renegotiated in 2025 for record sums, and these tours are part of the commercial commitment. For fans in Sydney and Jakarta, it's the first chance to see £100m signings in the flesh.
New Managers, New Systems
Three clubs have new managers heading into 2026-27 — and all three are fascinating appointments:
Andoni Iraola (Liverpool) — The 43-year-old Spaniard took Bournemouth from relegation candidates to European qualification in two seasons with a high-pressing, direct-attacking system that overwhelmed better-resourced opponents. Liverpool's squad is built for exactly that style. The question is whether he can translate it to a club with Champions League expectations. Tonight's Nashville friendly is the first data point.
Ruben Amorim (Manchester United) — The 0-1 loss to Wrexham wasn't the start anyone wanted, but it's preseason. Amorim's Sporting teams played some of the most tactically sophisticated football in Europe — a 3-4-3 with aggressive wing-backs and a high defensive line. Implementing that at Old Trafford with a squad still carrying players from four previous managers' regimes is the biggest challenge in the league. He has five more friendlies to figure it out.
Enzo Maresca (Chelsea) — Took Leicester straight back up, then got the Chelsea call. Inherited a squad in flux — £117m in (Rogers), £50m out (Santos), £51.8m out (Cucurella). Maresca is a Guardiola disciple who wants his teams to dominate possession and build from the back. Chelsea's Asia tour will tell us whether the squad is buying in — or whether this is another season of turbulence at Stamford Bridge.
